WE'RE SO PROUD OF SWEET, SWEET ABE - THIS IS WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT!

Hello friends! My name is Abe. I'm a young boy with a story that will make you smile. I found myself abandoned in front of a shelter in a cat carrier. I may have been locked in that carrier for a while - you see, I was extremely unhappy about the whole situation. I let everyone know it! My experience convinced me to trust no one and not enjoy much of anything. But then...

Then came September 22, 2017. This is the day when everything changed. The kind people at the shelter tried to work with me but I was terrified. I was on the defense and self-preservation was the only thing on my mind. A call was placed to King Street Cats to ask if one of their "cat whispering" volunteers might be able to work with a difficult cat. The answer was YES. My new life began.

I met the most wonderful cat whispering "foster mom" who spent so much time with me. She loved me then, loves me more each day and would be thrilled if she could keep me forever but her home is already full of kitties. I came to think of her as "mine" and I follow her around everywhere! That's the kind of receptive, appreciative boy I've become. She and my KSC friends started off with a terrified boy who was determined to ward off friendly hands by hitting them. Now hands are some of my favorite things because they stroke my back, pet me on the head and scratch me behind the ears. They even give me treats!

My transformation wasn't instant. I had to travel to the veterinarian in a cat carrier a few times. I was certain this was another trap and I'd become stuck inside again - I was so scared. Yet I was let out and spoken to softly, handled gently and rewarded with wonderful treats. I know there were times when my new friends weren't sure if I was willing to take a chance and trust them - but I am so glad that I did. I even let a few friends pick me up and I purred for them! My purr machine was a little rusty but I use it more and more each day.

I am now a full fledged member of the KSC family. I walk around and supervise the games and activity of my feline peers here. I have hired myself into the job of Assistant Paper Handler, as you can see from one of my photos. I greet my friends and adore my foster mom, who adores me right back and wants so much to see me find the loving home I deserve and will thrive in.

That home would include quiet, secure surroundings with a cat lover or lovers who understand how cats communicate. I'd thrive with a calm, soft-spoken purrson who doesn't view me as a puppy but appreciates my feline qualities and my impressive achievements in overcoming the obstacles I faced when I was first rescued. I'd do well with another mellow cat who was not threatened by my presence and did not exhibit aggression towards me.

I'm two (2) years old and looking forward to a long life as your faithful companion. I won't be an in-your-face kind of guy. We can enjoy our respective space near each other without crowing the other out. We can come together for affection and closeness as well. If you have paperwork to organize, I am your boy! I'm a very cute guy with snowy white fur and jey black patches. I have a friendly face with almond-shaped eyes that change from green to gold depending on the lighting. I love to pose for photos, as you can see!

In addition to letting you know how much my "foster mom" adores me, I'd like to share a few other comments from my KSC friends with you:

  • "Remarkable how far he has come."

  • "This is truly remarkable. So happy for Abe. Poor guy was so scared when he first got to KSC."

  • "Oh, sweet, sweet Abe!"

  • "I almost cried when he let me pet him. He's made remarkable progress and is going to be a great pet!"

  • "Abe's is a miracle story. He is so smart."

  • "He is one of my most favorite cats we have had at King Street Cats."

  • "Abe's story is really a miracle and just shows what time and TLC from those dedicated carers can achieve."

  • "Truly incredible turnaround!"

Can you help me keep up this amazing momentum and continue to blossom and thrive? You'll have one loyal and grateful furry friend to brighten your days. Please come to meet me! It's easy: send an email to contact@kingstreetcats.org and ask for me, Abe. Thank you so much.

Remarkably yours,
Abe
