FRIENDLY, AFFECTIONATE BOY WAS ADORED BY THE SHELTER STAFF WHO RESCUED HIM

Hello friends! My name is Carter. I saw some rough times in the streets of Baltimore before I found my way to a shelter where the caring staff saw my inner light was still shining. Even through the dirt and grime they could see what a friendly, affectionate purrsonality I have.

I came to be adored by everyone who met me. The shelter staff knew what a wonderful boy I am and what a wonderful family member I'm going to make so they called King Street Cats. Now that I've joined the KSC family, I am still making new human friends because my natural affinity for human companionship is obvious. I'm so happy around people who care about me!

While I was on the streets, I was attacked by another cat who gave me a deep-puncture bite wound. While I was at the veterinarian's office getting the care I needed, we discovered that I'm FIV+. This means that I carry the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, known as FIV.

But don't stop reading here! I am FIV+ and I am "Positively Adoptable!"

Let me tell you more...

FIV is not the same as Feline AIDS. It is not the same as the human forms of HIV or AIDS. You cannot catch it, and my care requirements are no different from what any cat lover does for his or her cat companions. An FIV+ cat does not necessarily develop Feline AIDS. FIV can only be spread from one cat to another cat through deep-puncture bite wounds.

Here's what I'll need in terms of care:

  • I'll need you to feed me a high quality diet (preferably a grain-free, high-protein canned/wet food);
  • I'll need you to come to know my behaviors so that you can notice changes that may be health-related;
  • I'll need you to develop a good working relationship with a veterinarian who is current on FIV issues, and seek that veterinarian's assistance if you notice any changes in my behavior;
  • I'll need you to provide me with regular veterinary care;
  • I'll need you to keep me indoors so that I am not exposed to feral cats or wild animals.

That's all. Wouldn't you do that for any kitty? I thought so!

I'm a handsome reddish tabby with nice mackerel striping in my fur. I am stylishly dressed in a snowy white tuxedo that happens to match my snowy white tummy and footwear. I have bright green eyes and short, plush fur. I love to be petted and I will purr happily to let you know how happy you're making me.

I can't wait to have a forever home with my own purrson or family. I'd be happiest without dogs. I might do well with an accepting female kitty but no male cats, please. I would prefer not to be reminded of the attack I suffered from a male cat while I was on the streets.

I would also be happy as your "one and only" best friend! Since I enjoy human company so much, I can't wait to spend time with you and bond with you.

I am about five (5) years old.

If you would enjoy sharing your days with a loyal friend who's eager for your company and will always be happy to see you, then we should meet!

It's easy to arrange a safe time to meet: please send your email to contact@kingstreetcats.org and ask for me, Carter. Maybe we're meant for each other.

Affectionately yours,
Carter
