Celebrating Our 20th Anniversary in Rescue

We invited our amazing volunteers to help us celebrate KSC’s official 20th Anniversary on November 18 and to thank them...

It is because of their hard work and dedication that KSC has not only survived but thrived as an all-volunteer organization. Even during COVID, they never missed a beat and our daily shifts were covered. The cats were fed, medicated, and received all the TLC they deserve. Thank you for making a difference.

We want to say a huge thank you to Nino and the staff at Osteria da Nino for hosting us tonight and to the awesome Kay Houghton & Associates whose generosity made this evening possible. We had a fabulous time

It goes without saying that along with our volunteers, it is our foster families, rescue partners, donors, and supporters who all make our rescue mission possible. And this Thanksgiving we are truly grateful for all of you.

Adoption Pledge in Honor of Black Cat Day  2019 August Adoption Pledge

It's time for our third adoption pledge of 2019! In honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day on August 17, King Street Cats' adoption pledge theme for August is black cats. This year, KSC alum Winky from St. Croix urges you to not overlook all the black cats out there looking for homes. Winky recently lost her feline "brother" Zeke whom she adored from the first day she met. In return, Winky and the rest of her human family were given companionship and protection from a truly loyal cat.

Therefore, in honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day, if you would like to make a pledge for every black cat that is adopted from KSC in the month of August, all you need to do is wait until the first week of September when we announce how many black cats have been adopted and then you can send a check or pay online via Paypal.

There is no need to email KSC to say that you are pledging for the month, but you are welcome to post a comment on our Facebook page to show your love for black cats, share a picture of your own black cat, and encourage others to make a pledge and even adopt a black cat companion. Winky says thank you for all your support of KSC's rescue efforts, particularly of black cats this month!

Update: Scooby, Sambucca, Amaretto and Diamond all found their forever homes!

Thank you Stone Hill Middle School
2018 Stone Hill donation

We want to say a huge thank you to the students at Stone Hill Middle School in Ashburn, VA and their art teacher Ms Welty who chose KSC as the  recipient of a $300 donation from their 3rd Annual Art for Animals Benefit.

In spring 2018, the 6th grade art students researched various ways artists contribute to society and use their art for social change. One particular artist they studied was Mark Barone, who is best known for a series of paintings commemorating the 5,500 dogs who were sadly euthanized in shelters across the US. Based on their research the students were asked to create animal prints, which they then displayed and sold to raise money to donate to local animal groups. KSC is proud and humbled to be among the recipients.

If you would like to learn more about Mark Barone and the project, there is a PBS documentary that features Ms Welty and her students here:https://anactofdog.org

St. Croix Animal Shelter Devastated by Hurricane Maria  2017 St Croix

We have an important update to share with you on our friends St. Croix Animal Welfare Center who suffered greatly in the wake of Hurricane Maria. We are saddened to report the shelter sustained severe damage, and the cat and puppy areas are gone completely. They are currently unable to operate as an animal shelter but are planning to reopen a low-cost clinic in a safer location.

Fortunately, more than 300 of the animals were evacuated before the hurricane hit but there are animals still in foster homes and living on the island in dire need of help. If you are interested in helping, please click on the link below or visit here

As many of you know KSC has been partnering with St Croix since 2009. So far we've helped rescue and find forever homes for around 90 cats and kittens from the island. It all began when volunteer Allie P. participated in a conference on St Croix and returned with the first kitty, Whisper. Since then a number of our volunteers and supporters have visited the island--not only for a vacation but also so they could bring back cats and kittens.

We are in contact with the shelter staff and will keep you updated as they let us know how best we can help moving forward.

Kitten Season Arrives Early

Olympian Kittens 2014 We got a call from an area county shelter about a mom and her 5 kittens in imminent danger of euthanasia on 17 February; no other group contacted was willing to intake them because they were not vetted. Fortunately, our risk in rescuing her paid off and she got a clean bill of health from our vets. Now known as our “Olympians,” mom Sochi and kittens: Bode, Sage, Charlie, Meryl and Noelle--named after our U.S. medal winners--are doing fine in their foster home. If you would like to foster kittens for KSC, please email us for details at: contact@kingstreetcats.org

We'd also like to thank the group for their very generous donation and for supporting our work all the way from Australia. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
